What Is DBT?

DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) is widely known for being the gold standard treatment for Border Line Personality Disorder. Though we do not offer full-model DBT at CCC, we do lean into DBT skills training- this skill base can be helpful for most individuals with a focus on:

  • Mindfulness

  • Distress tolerance

  • Interpersonal effectiveness

  • And emotion regulation. 

DBT skill development fosters a better understanding of our emotions and the behavioral urges/responses we experience. This approach gives a ‘dialectical’ or balanced way of responding to emotions that build on our ability to accept things that are outside of our control and to change those things that are within our control, including emotional intensity and responses.
